between imagination and paper, between a fabric sample book and its story.
“Each fabric texture and pattern
was inspired by an element of the world around the fabric designer. Mythical legends, towering cathedrals, famous
artwork, and rich cultures around the world are to name a few of these
inspiring elements. The name and color
assigned to each fabric pattern by its designer is what gives birth to each of
these unique stories. I research each
fabric name, and as I read, the story takes form. It is less like creating a story and more
like finding a story that is waiting to be told and bringing that story to life
through words.”

Belcastel, a
picturesque medieval town in southern France, brings charm and innocence to
these fabrics. The textures and checks
were inspired from the cobblestone streets, while the various plaids originate
from the stone tiled houses. The soft
and serene blues flow from pattern to pattern like the Aveyron river flows
through the town. The castle itself can
be seen in the background of the quaint lives painted on the toile fabric. Colors of verdigris, jade, oasis, and spring
emerge from the local artwork created through the watercolor competitions and
art exhibitions held during Belcastel summers.
